CHALLENGES! From birth to death life inevitably involves a variety of challenges. Some are minor, requiring little thought and effort to master. Others, however, seem insurmountable! They sweep over us like a tsunami, paralyzing our minds and depleting our energy.

Some challenges are intentionally chosen ... like education and marriage. However, others ... like illness and unemployment ... intrude without permission. Such unanticipated encounters often produce feelings of bewilderment, helplessness and hopelessness.

So, given the fact that life challenges are unavoidable, what can one do to courageously confront and productively master them? Fortunately, the answer is easy to discover, understand and implement.

Consider the challenge of education. The first step is memorizing the 26 letters of the alphabet. With these basics one learns words and forms sentences so as to be able to write and read. Then, one studies the basics of sentence structure: articles, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases and punctuation. Similarly, mathematics commences with 10 basic numbers to which the mechanics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are added as well as the operation of fractions. It's obvious! Success in education begins with the mastery of BASICS!

Think of all the examples you could add to the above illustration. No matter what they are this principle is operative and absolute: conquering life challenges primarily requires knowledge and use of BASICS!

Jesus came to communicate the Creator's design for living: the Basics of Life. But the message wasn't written or verbal. It was a personal demonstration ... something like a kindergarten "show and tell". So, Jesus declared: "I am the way to the truth about life!"

Basics of Life examines Jesus' assertion by sketching the Basics of Life he demonstrated. Then we'll apply these Basics to various Challenges of Life. You're invited to explore our findings. All that's required is an adventurous heart seeking "the way to the truth about life!"
