The words “father” and “children” are two sides of the same coin.
“When Adam was 130 years old, he had a son who was just like him, his very spirit and image, and named him Seth.” (Genesis 5:3-5) DNA, found in every cell of your body, is the chemical blueprint that defines you as a unique person. The code came from your mother and father. Like Seth, you bear the family likeness of your parents.
This fact is rooted in the Creator’s design of humankind. The FATHER deposited His DNA, His genetic blueprint, in Adam and Eve’s spirit. “God spoke: ‘Let us make human beings … reflecting our nature.” (Genesis 1:27) FATHER wanted a FAMILY … daughters and sons, that reflected His character. “At the core of our being, each one of us has the identity of being a child of God, made in his image and likeness.”(Our Sunday Visitor)
You’re a good, good father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
You’re a good, good father
We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything
to work toward something good and beautiful
when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.
From the distant past, His eternal love reached into the future.
You see, He knew those who would be His one day,
and He chose them beforehand to be conformed to the image of His Son
so that Jesus would be the firstborn of a new family of believers, all brothers and sisters.
As for those He chose beforehand, He called them to a different destiny
so that they would experience what it means to be made right with God
and share in His glory.
People hold some weird views about Heaven. My purpose to explore that which is taught in Romans 8:28-30 about one of the primary characteristics of Heaven.
Have you ever been to a classic car show? Or, have you ever seen a classic car on the road? These old cars have been restored to their original condition. So to, you will be restored to your original condition; well really an big update. Remember, your DNA is absolutely unique. In all of time there never was, is or will be another you. Father possesses the original blueprint of you. “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I chose you for a special work.” (Jeremiah 1:5) Your DNA will not change in Heaven. Though we have been deformed by sin, Jesus dealt with that issue at Calvary. So, the Holy Spirit is free to help you become a Jesus-Sized version of the original of you.
Back to the the Heaven matter. Heaven will be populated by a family, the members of which bear the likeness of Jesus! “He chose us beforehand to be conformed to the image of His Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of a new family of believers, all brothers and sisters.” “If you had one son in whom you found unspeakable delight, would it not be normal as a father to want many more? It is exactly so with the Eternal Father, Who by nature and choice, has desired and purposed to have a vast family of human-divine sons who are just like His Only Begotten Son.” (DeVern Fromke) Those connected to Jesus will be “All in the Family.”
This family will be preoccupied with performing the will of the Father and so, glorify Him! “May your Kingdom come soon. May your WILL be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”(Matthew 6:10) “Our Lord and our God, it is right for You to have the shining-greatness and the honor and the power. You made all things. They were made and have life because You wanted it that way.” (Revelation 4:11)
Do you remember the blind man’s first condition. He saw but his vision was blurred. So it is with us. By faith we see; however, our vision of the above is blurred. As Paul said, “We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist.” (1 Corinthians 13:12) For most, it’s hard to believe that we’re going to be what the Creator originally designed and, even better. Nonetheless, we’re all going to be in the family of Jesus! People! Consider this: “The Father has given us his love. He loves us so much that we are actually called God’s dear children. And that’s what we are. Dear friends, now we are God’s children. What we will be isn’t completely clear yet. We do know that when Christ appears we will be like him ….” (1 John 3:1-2)
Let us bow down in worship. Let us kneel before our Maker. Psalm 95:6
The Manual of Life begins by identifying The Manufacturer! “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
The Maker’s fingerprints are on everything! However, His crowning masterpiece is humankind: “God created human beings godlike, reflecting His own nature.” (Genesis 1:27)
So, you are NOT the result of a cosmic crapshoot! Neither are you a mere ape-upgrade! “People of God, is He not your Father, your Creator, Who formed you?” (Deuterononmy 32:6)
YOU are a child of the Creator Father!
The Corvette is the first American sports car. It originated in the mind of Harley Earl in 1951. Shortly thereafter his mental blue print took shape in an actual-size clay model. To one of His kids the Maker said: “Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
You were intricately and meticulously designed. “A fertilized egg is about the size of a pin head. Yet, it contains information equivalent to about six billion DNA ‘chemical letters.’ This is enough information to fill 1000 books, 500 pages thick with print so small you would need a microscope to read it!.” (The Origin of the Universe, p 1)
“You are God’s masterpiece” (Ephesians 2:10) … nothing less than a work of art! You may neither think nor feel that way about yourself; but remember, the Maker does not make junk!
Comedian Billy Crystal coined the line: “Darling, you look absolutely marvelous!” In reflecting about His Father’s creativity David said this about himself: “You formed me in my mother’s womb. Body and soul, I am marvelously made!” (Psalm 139:14)
The Maker designed you for fulfillment.
“You will feel the greatest pleasure when
who God made you to be is fully developed and expressed!”
(About You, p 29)
As I noted in a previous post Dr. Francis Collins, director of The Genome Center at the National Institutes of Health, led the research on the Human Genome Project. When Dr. Collins began his work on HGP, he was a confessing atheist. But, during the years of research his mind and heart began to change. He wrote a book entitled “The Language of God.” Here’s a two part interview with Charlie Rose about his life, science and faith—
On May 21, 1965, President John F. Kennedy made this proposal to Congress: “I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth.” On October, 1990, a similar proposal was made relative to exploring the inner world of human space: the mapping of the 46 genes that make you uniquely YOU! Thirteen years later this headline appeared in the New York Times:
BETHESDA, Md., April 14—“The human genome is complete,” leaders of a public consortium of academic centers said today. “We have before us the instruction set that carries each of us from the one-cell egg through adulthood to the grave.”
Dr. Francis Collins, director of the genome center at the National Institutes of Health, said the Human Genome Project had completed the task it set itself and was today dissolved. The human genome “is a history book—a narrative of the journey of our species through time. It’s a shop manual, with an incredibly detailed blueprint for building every human cell. And it’s a transformative textbook of medicine, with insights that will give health care providers immense new powers to treat, prevent and cure disease.”
Here are some of the astonishing facts about YOU:
- There are 100 trillion (100,000,000,000,000) cells in your body.
- There are three billion (3,000,000,000) base pairs in the DNA code within each cell.
- Your genome is made of 3,200 million base pairs, split into 46 chromosomes.
- If the DNA in your body was put end to end, it would reach to the sun and back over 600 times.
- It would take a person typing 60 words per minute, eight hours a day, around 50 years to type your genome.
Listen to David’s appraisal of the Maker’s work—You shaped me, inside and out. I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence. Your thoughts and plans are treasures to me, O God! How grand in scope! How many in number! If I could count each one of them, they would be more than all the grains of sand on earth. Their number is inconceivable!
