Sometimes life hits us with a tsunami of adversity. It may be physical, mental, spiritual or relational—or, a combination of all four. We’re like the disciples in this incident:

Meanwhile, the boat was far out to sea when the wind came up against them and they were battered by the waves. At about four o’clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them walking on the water. They were scared out of their wits. “A ghost!” they said, crying out in terror. But Jesus was quick to comfort them. “Courage, it’s Me. Don’t be afraid.” Peter, suddenly bold, said, “Master, if it’s really You, call me to come to You on the water.”  He said, “Come ahead.” Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus.

Now, lest we get fixated on the storm (that’s my inclination), let’s note this fact: adversity turned out to be a hidden treasure for Peter! In the midst of the storm he walked on water! Not a bad gig, wouldn’t you agree? This is what Janine Shepherd discovered. Her story takes us on an amazing journey—an odyssey with so many twists and turns, so many deep valleys and steep hills. It mirrors the road we travel in our own lives every single day. This is a story that takes us from the pinnacle of elite athletics competition to the pain and fear of being wheelchair bound and facing the shattering reality of permanent injury.

Please listen to Janine’s story and remember … the hidden treasures of adversity!
