“My deepest awareness of myself is that I am deeply loved by Jesus Christ and I have done nothing to earn it or deserve it.”
“Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is illusion.”
Christ arrives right on time to make this happen.
He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready.
He presented himself for this sacrificial death
when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready.
God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death
while we were of no use whatever to him.
I cannot find in my own
And He keeps His fire burning
To melt this heart of stone
Keeps me aching with a yearning
Keeps me glad to have been caught
In the reckless raging fury
That they call the love of God
The serpent told the woman, “You won’t die.
God knows that the moment you eat from that tree,
you’ll see what’s really going on. You’ll be just like God,
knowing everything, ranging all the way from good to evil.”
When the woman saw that the tree looked like good eating
and realized what she would get out of it – she’d know everything!
she took and ate the fruit and then gave some to her husband, and he ate.
Immediately the two of them did “see what’s really going on”—saw themselves naked!
They sewed fig leaves together as makeshift clothes for themselves.
