The medical-model of dementia care in our culture today is largely built on a model of “fix the patient”, yet we know there is no “fix” for dementia. What if we re-thought our model? What if we focused on what dementia patients can do, instead of what they cannot? This new approach might just change everything about our views on dementia. Judy Cornish is an elder law attorney, author, and the founder of the Dementia & Alzheimer’s Wellbeing Network (DAWN). “I spend most of my time running DAWN and my dementia care business, Palouse Dementia Care, and teaching families and dementia caregivers how to use the tools of the DAWN Method. I am passionate about recognizing the skills we can still use even with dementia, and teaching people how we can support the dignity and autonomy of those who are living with dementia.
