At that moment their eyes were opened
and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness.
So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
When the cool evening breezes were blowing,
the man
and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden.
So they hid from the
Lord God among the trees.

Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid.
at that moment their eyes were opened
Genesis 3:7-10

Adam and Eve were AFRAID!  “So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.”“We hide behind fig leaves of our false self. This is the way we package our self to escape the painful awareness of our nakedness.” (The Gift of Being Yourself p 76)

“But a few fig leaves cannot hide this new sense of vulnerability from God. So, when they hear His voice in the garden, Adam and Eve try to hide themselves completely.” (Henri Nouwen)  “People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls.” “(Carl Jung) Christ never intended to cover up the dark side of life, but rather to illuminate a path through it.”  (Dan Allender)

So, The Hound of Heaven (Francis Thompson) pursued the fugitives. “Where are you?”  That question was filled with the unbelievable grace of the Father. He was calling them out because THERE’S NO HEALING IN HIDING!

Out of the trees they came, tremblingly, expecting severe punishment, retribution, and vengeance. “Fear always contains some of the torture of feeling guilty.”  (1 John 4:17-18)

“Master of delusion that I am, I have trouble penetrating my web of self deceptions and knowing the real me.” (The Gift of Being Yourself p 1)

NAKED! This was a DREAD-FILLED action! THEY HAD TO GET NAKED!Being naked in front of someone else is the most vulnerable a person could ever be. No barriers, no shield, no interface, no pretence. And no weapons, either. It’s no wonder they were so afraid of it. The fig leaves had to be removed because they were THE barrier to healing.” (Stack Exchange)
